1 · The model
Drop an .fbx exported from Navisworks (Output ▸ Export Scene ▸ FBX). This replaces the Autodesk FBX Converter step and gives you OBJ and DXF in one pass. Nothing leaves this browser.
2 · How it should come out
Navisworks NWD and NWC
This converter does not open NWD or NWC. Autodesk publishes no specification for them, the content is partly encrypted rather than merely compressed, and no free reader exists that we have the right to use. Opening one by guesswork would be worse than not opening it, because you would build from geometry nobody had checked. The routes that do work:
- Export FBX from Navisworks yourself — Output ▸ Export Scene ▸ FBX — then convert it here. This is the only Navisworks export that carries the full geometry: its export menu has no DXF, OBJ or IFC at all. Needs Manage or Simulate; Freedom cannot export and has no programming interface.
- A folder at a time? FBX export has no public Navisworks interface, so a batch has to go through a Navisworks plug-in — a small development job, not a script. The documented batch utility writes NWD and NWF only.
- Without Autodesk at all: commercial converter SDKs read NWD directly (Open Design Alliance BimNv, HOOPS Exchange, Datakit). Paid, offline, and worth pricing if batch NWD becomes routine.
- Autodesk's cloud service uploads the model to Autodesk — and for NWD it produces only their viewer format, not OBJ or DXF, so it does not even solve this. Named here so it could never be an accident.
Two things worth knowing before you export: the FBX loses point clouds entirely and Polygon Limiting silently discards detail if it is left on; and a published NWD that its author locked will refuse to export at all, which is a deliberate control on someone else's data that we would not go around.
Leica's help says Cyclone 3DR imports DXF and that most objects in a DXF arrive, but not which mesh entity it honours. The probe holds the same pyramid three ways on three named layers — open it in your 3DR and in AutoCAD, and tell us which of the three come in. Then we make that the default.
